Everything you want to know about the history of the Postma Family
The Belgian Revolution
1830
Maastricht
Sybe Jochems Postma and Sije Jochums Postma both died in Maastricht at the time of the Belgian revolution. We will probably never find out exactly what their contribution was.
1830-1839
Maastricht
Shortly after the outbreak of the Belgian fight for independence in 1830, Belgian troops captured the entire province of Limburg, except for the fortified city of Maastricht. This was then completely surrounded and managed to hold out for three consecutive years under the leadership of General Dibbits. In November 1833 the blockade was largely lifted (Treaty of Zonhoven). In 1838 the Belgian troops withdrew from Dutch Limburg, effectively lifting the blockade of Maastricht. Officially the blockade did not end until the London Treaty was signed by both parties on April 19, 1839.
1830-1839
Dibbets
Dibbets was the commander of the Dutch garrison in Maastricht (1830-1839) and has taken care of it that Maastricht was not taken by Belgium.
1831-1832
